I heard this tonight on KPLU's (88.5 and all that jazz) All Blues. According to the DJ, it was Clapton's first solo hit after he left three previous bands (Yardbirds, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, and Cream).

Unreleased 1970 version (according to You Tube)

25th Anniversary Tour in Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, 21st September 1988.

There are lots of other Clapton performances of After Midnight on You Tube.
