Check out the movie "festival express" It a documentary about a cross Canada train hauling a zillion musicians to various festivals. It has the best Joplin material you will ever see. plus you get to see her drunk trying to sing harmony with Graham Nash. The film has The Band, Ian and Sylvia(4 strong winds)Flying Burrito Brothers, Buddy Guy

I saw something on PBS about the making of that movie. The musicians were afraid to bring drugs into Canada, so they "discovered" that age old drug of choice, alcohol. In one town they stopped the train in front of a liquor store and bought out its entire stock.
Thirty some years later one of the musicians was asked about the filiming of the documentary. His comment was, "there was a movie crew there?" or words to that effect.
