Sidney Bichet was the first master of the soprano sax. He is playing one in the style of a Dixieland clarinet in this jazz classic.

love these old videos of guys I've never seen but only heard. I used to listen and occasionally tape KMPX broad casts, it was big band, swing ,dixieland for 10 years. Sidey was a regular artist. Oakland was a hub for swing and a few of the dance halls are still around albeit camouflaged.

not meaning to hijack your thread Bill bbbbuuuttt things heat up@2:00 and wailing enough at 2:30 to make me grab my sweetie and cut a rug

I like the way Sidney Bichet makes the soprano sax sound like a Dixieland band clarinet in these versions of St. Louis Blues.

Thanks for the link. I grew up in the 50's and 60's listening to Big Band recordings from LPs my parents had purchased. While other kids listened to rock, surfer music, and the Beatles, I listened to jazz. Consequently, I don't know very many Boomers who like Big Band swing and jazz in general.
